Answers, honestly.

Opening your account
What do I need to open an account?
Two minutes and four things to start: your mobile number, your name as printed on your Ghana Card, a 4-digit PIN you choose, and the @handle you want. To open the Ecobank account itself, the step after: your Ghana Card, your address (town, area and a landmark is enough — no street name needed), and a quick selfie. Everything is listed before you begin, so nothing surprises you midway.
I started but didn't finish. Is my application gone?
No. Your application does not vanish after you start. Close the tab, come back tomorrow — your name and number are still here and the flow picks up where you stopped. Your PIN is never kept in the browser, so you'll set that fresh. Your @handle stays yours.
Why do you need my Ghana Card and a selfie?
Regulation — it's what makes your money a real bank deposit. Your selfie is matched against your Ghana Card photo through the bank's own verification, proving you are you so nobody else can open an account in your name. Your card details are sealed (encrypted) on our servers, never stored in your browser; the verification screen shows how long they're kept, read from the live policy.
Which name should I enter?
Exactly the name printed on your Ghana Card, including any hyphen or apostrophe. A spelling “correction” that differs from the card fails verification — the match is against the card, not against what looks right.
What do the statuses mean?
Registered / Ready — registered with Sikafon, not yet sent to the bank. Pending — with Ecobank; nothing is lost by waiting for their answer. Opened — account exists and is linked; the app shows your account number's last four digits. Needs another look — the bank couldn't complete it: no account was opened, your details are safe, and you can check them and apply again with the same reference. We never say an account exists before the bank confirms it.
Your account number
Ecobank sent me an account number but the app still says pending. What now?
That's normal — Ecobank sends your number directly to you by SMS or email, sometimes before it reaches us. Activate it in under a minute: sign in, tap “Got your Ecobank account number? Activate now” on your home screen (or go to sikafon.com/confirm-account), and enter the number exactly as sent. We confirm with the bank it's registered in your name — the same name as on your verified Ghana Card — then link it on the spot.
I haven't received any account number. Should I worry?
Give it a little time — Ecobank verifies your details on their side, and we automatically check with them every couple of minutes. Check the mobile number and email you gave us, including spam; the SMS goes to the number on your application. Still nothing after a couple of days? Contact support with your SKF- reference from your status page — it lets us query the bank about your specific case.
Which mobile number should I put on my application?
The active Ghana number you want linked to your account. It isn't just a contact detail: Ecobank ties this number to the account itself, and texts your account number to it. Giving a number you don't actively use is the main reason people never receive theirs.
Your @handle and PIN
What exactly is my @handle?
Your name and your login, in one thing. You sign in with @you instead of remembering an account number, and it is the name on your Ecobank account. It does not change, so choose one you will want to say out loud for years.
I forgot my PIN. Am I locked out?
No. Use “Forgot your PIN?” on the sign-in page — you verify with your Ghana Card and a fresh selfie (the same check that opened your account), then set a new PIN yourself. Nobody at Sikafon can see or tell you your PIN: we only ever store a scrambled version that can't be read back.
Your data
Where do my Ghana Card details actually live?
Encrypted (“sealed”) on your pending application, and only there. The moment Ecobank confirms your account, that sealed record is deleted. What we keep instead: your reference, your application's status history, your consent record, and a one-way fingerprint of your card number that blocks duplicate registrations and can't be reversed.
Who do you share my details with?
Ecobank, once, to open your account — the exact purpose you agree to on the review screen. We don't sell data and we don't share it with advertisers. If someone helped you sign up, their @handle is recorded on your application — you see that on the review screen before you submit, never silently.
Agents and affiliates
What's the difference between an agent and an affiliate?
An agent registers someone in person: you hand them the phone, they do their own selfie and PIN, and the registration earns you, the agent, a flat commission. An affiliate instead shares their personal link (sikafon.com/me/growth) so people can sign up on their own, anywhere — credit for bringing them in, not commission yet (see below). Do either or both; there's no separate sign-up, just open “Register someone else” or share your link.
Can I open an account for a family member?
Yes — with them present. Use “Register someone else” from your home screen: you enter their basic details, then hand them the phone for their own selfie and their own secret PIN. The account is theirs alone — you're recorded as having helped, and you never gain access to it. They must be with you: the selfie is matched to their Ghana Card, so registering someone remotely doesn't work by design.
What do I earn for registering someone, and when do I get it?
GHS 2 per confirmed registration, shown the moment it's recorded — capped at 50 a day and 25 an hour, with a warning before a limit stops you, never mid-registration. One registration can never pay twice, even claimed two different ways. There's no automatic payout to your balance yet: it's tracked in the same ledger as your other agent activity; ask Sikafon operations how your balance is settled.
What does my sikafon.com/me/growth link actually do?
It's your personal, shareable link — “Share your link” on sikafon.com/me/growth builds it for you. Anyone who opens it sees Sikafon with your name on it, and anyone who signs up through it is recorded as brought in by you; you can see how many people opened it and how their applications are going, right there. The page counts opens, not people — only a completed registration counts toward anything. Bringing someone in this way isn't paid today, only recorded; registering them in person, standing with them, is paid (see above).
The app asks: “so-and-so says they helped you open your account.” What is this?
Someone has told us they helped you sign up, and only you can settle it. Saying yes credits them for registering you — it gives them no access to your account or your money. Saying no is final: they can't ask you again. Answer whichever is true; nothing else changes either way.
I registered people before there was a button for it — can I still get credit?
Yes, at sikafon.com/agent/claims. Enter their @handle and, if it helps them remember, where and when — but nothing is credited until they confirm it themselves from their own account. It's a question you're asking them, not a payout form: they can say no, and a no is final. You can have up to 25 claims waiting at once, reaching back at most 90 days.
There's a Rewards page — can I earn points or cashback there?
Not yet. The screen is real and reachable, but every action on it — creating a referral code, redeeming anything — answers “not available yet” today. Cashback and points are built and tested, waiting on a partner arrangement that hasn't landed. Nothing there is real for you to spend or redeem right now; this page will say so the day that changes.
What can get an agent suspended?
Entering or watching a customer's PIN · registering anyone who isn't physically with you · opening an account under your own handle for someone else's money · claiming people you didn't actually register · anything that tries to game the counters above. Suspension freezes your agent activity only — your own personal account is untouched.
Still stuck? If you've applied, your status page carries your SKF- reference and a guide that knows where your application actually stands — open your application. Otherwise, start at opening your account.
